English translation: 20. [Marginal note: died 14 March 1844, p. 45.] Father: Waßmann (underlined in the original), Friedrich Wilhelm Conrad, linen-weaver and cottager (Brinksitzer) at Kemnade. Mother: Hanne Marie Luise, née Schünemann (also underlined), [figure unread] and twenty years old. Birth: the twenty-first of December, six(?) o’clock in the morning. Baptism: the eighth of January, one thousand eight hundred and forty-three. Child: (daughter) Johanne Caroline Christiane. Godparents: 1. Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Jacke(?), farm servant at Bodenwerder; 2. Johanne Luise Schmidtkühn(?) of Hehlen; 3. Johanne Sophie Luise Schlüter(?) at Kemnade. All still unmarried.

> Note: the mother is a different woman — née Schünemann, not née Ritter, and in her twenties against the Ritter wife’s thirties. The most economical reading is that Friedrich Wilhelm Conrad Waßmann was widowed between March 1836 and December 1842 and remarried. Neither the death nor the second marriage has been searched for. Note that the maiden name is underlined here as well as the surname, which this clerk does not do elsewhere in these entries. > > Correction on re-check against the 1843–1868 volume: the maiden name reads Schünemann, and the 1845 baptism at Bild 12 of that volume gives her birth at Rühle on 18 March 1814. > > Note: the marginal cross and the reference to 14 March 1844, p. 45, record the child’s death at about fifteen months, entered in the burial register of this parish. That leaf has not been pulled.
