The record

Document: One-page Ancestry.com index printout: George Wesemann in the 1890 Veterans Schedules of the U.S. Federal Census.

Language: English

Transcription conventions: on printed forms, pre-printed text is set in roman and handwritten entries in \italic\; wholly handwritten registers and lists are set in roman. Square brackets mark editorial matter: [?] follows an uncertain reading, [illegible] marks unread text, [blank] marks an unfilled field, and bracketed descriptions record stamps, marks, and annotations. Spelling, abbreviation, and capitalisation follow the original; nothing is corrected. On census and register pages that carry many unrelated entries, the page heading and the target household or entry are transcribed in full; the extent of what is and is not transcribed is stated on each page.

Transcriber’s notes

This is an index entry, not an image of the schedule. The regiment is indexed as “2 New York Inf”; the discharge certificate names Company G, Second Regiment of New Jersey Volunteers. The dates (27 March–11 July 1865) and company agree. The New York reading is probably an indexing or enumeration error and should be checked against the schedule image for ED 745.

Grade: DERIVED (index).
