The record

Language: English

Transcription conventions: on printed forms, pre-printed text is set in roman and handwritten entries in \italic\; wholly handwritten registers and lists are set in roman. Square brackets mark editorial matter: [?] follows an uncertain reading, [illegible] marks unread text, [blank] marks an unfilled field, and bracketed descriptions record stamps, marks, and annotations. Spelling, abbreviation, and capitalisation follow the original; nothing is corrected. On census and register pages that carry many unrelated entries, the page heading and the target household or entry are transcribed in full; the extent of what is and is not transcribed is stated on each page.

Transcriber’s notes

Frederick, 64 (born c. 1816), and Christiana, 59 (born c. 1821), agree with Jacob Friedrich Bauer’s marriage to Christina Magdalena Rau, whose index gives birth on 13 February 1821. The occupation continues the 1860 “Brush Maker”.

The wife’s given name re-checked at zoom 2026-09-27: “Christiana”, consistent with 1860.

The next household (line 28) is Frederick Weller, 71, dealer in ground nuts; it is not related on this evidence.

The house number reads most like 819 (re-checked at zoom 2026-09-27; 817 is the Wolff house on line 11).

Grade: PRIMARY.
