Plain reading

On 1 June 1900 a Welsh-born coal miner, William, 40, who came to the United States in 1889, and his English-born wife Annie, 34, married 10 years (married about 1890), rented a house in Ward 4 of Mount Carmel borough with five sons: Stephen (10), Archibald (7), George (5), David (2) and Wilfred (1). The surname is written "Alon_" and indexed "Honk"; neither Alsop nor Honk can be told from the stroke ending; the first letters ("Alo-" or "Als-") favor Alsop.

Notes

Name, place, married about 1890 and an English-born wife of about the right age fit; no document names her as a Parrish. The surname reading stays uncertain until compared with the 1910 census or the Alsop marriage record.

Conflicts noted: (1) Annie's birthplace: this sheet says England, born October 1865. The 1881 England census (Chapter 9 [11]) puts Annie L. at Kingswinford at about 14, recorded in Chapter 9 as one of six children "born in America"; the FamilySearch 1881 index for Sarah J. Parrish (ark 1:1:Q27F-29RQ) gives Sarah's birthplace as Kingswinford, so the 1881 birthplaces of the older children need a second look (see BR2.2). England is not an outright conflict if Annie was an older child. (2) The index says "Honk"; the image reads "Alon[k/p?]". (3) Annie's age: 34 on the image, 35 in the index; 14 in 1881 gives about 33.
